Built on Experience, Grown Through Hard Work

The foundation of The Muffler Shop starts with its owner, Nate Lord, whose background in mechanical work and fabrication goes back much further than the shop itself. Coming from a family of tradesmen, Nate was introduced to automotive repair and welding at an early age. While still in high school, he learned welding from his uncle and quickly developed a strong passion for hands-on work and problem-solving.

That early interest turned into a thriving welding and fabrication business during his high school years. At the same time, Nate pursued a mechanical engineering degree at Georgia Tech, where he also met his wife, Suzanne. Although he enjoyed the technical knowledge and structure of engineering, he eventually realized that working in an office setting wasn’t where he felt most at home.

From Welding Bay to Full-Service Repair Shop

After college, Nate returned to what he loved most, working with his hands. He continued welding for housing developers, but when the construction market slowed down around 2008, much of that work disappeared. Instead of stepping away, he adapted. He set up his welding equipment in a small shop bay and began offering exhaust welding and repair services.

That decision became the turning point. Customers who came in for exhaust work soon began asking for additional repairs, brakes, air conditioning issues, water pumps, and more. Each request was met with the same approach: careful diagnosis, honest work, and a commitment to getting the job done right. Word spread quickly, and the “muffler shop” that started with exhaust work grew into something much bigger.

A Passion for Fixing What Others Couldn’t

Nate’s passion for repair work goes beyond vehicles. From an early age, he found satisfaction in restoring and rebuilding items that others had given up on. Whether it was mechanical parts, broken equipment, or eventually entire vehicles, he developed a reputation for bringing things back to life when others thought replacement was the only option.



That mindset carried into his automotive work. Over time, he began purchasing damaged or neglected vehicles, repairing them, and reselling them, turning problem-solving into both a craft and a livelihood. More importantly, it reinforced a philosophy that still guides The Muffler Shop today: if something can be fixed properly, it should be.
